1. About us

Smart Passport Photo ("we", "us", "our") is an online passport photo service operated by Supertensor Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16791776), registered office: 167-169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, United Kingdom, W1W 5PF. By using smartpassportphoto.com you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. The service

We provide an AI-powered passport photo processing service. You upload a photo, we process it to meet the specification for your chosen country, and you pay to download the result.

The service includes:

  • Background removal and replacement
  • Automatic crop and resize to country specification
  • Compliance checking (face detection, expression, lighting, etc.)
  • JPEG download at correct dimensions
  • IDPC code for UK GOV.UK passport applications (UK users only)

3. Pricing and payment

The price is £3.99 per photo in the UK, with a fixed equivalent price shown upfront for other countries (e.g. US, EU, Canada, Australia, India). This is a one-time payment — there is no subscription, no auto-renewal, and no recurring charge of any kind.

Payment is processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your payment details.

You are charged in your local currency at the price shown on the order page before payment.

4. Refund and retake guarantee

We offer a free retake or full refund if your photo is rejected by a government authority. To claim:

  • Email support@smartpassportphoto.com with your order number
  • Tell us why the photo was rejected
  • No rejection letter or proof required
  • We will respond within 24 hours with either a free replacement or full refund

This guarantee applies to government rejection of the photo on compliance grounds. It does not apply if you provided an unsuitable source photo that we warned you about before payment, or if you chose to print via a third party who altered the photo.

Refunds are processed via Stripe and typically appear within 5–10 business days.

5. Your photo — what you must not upload

By uploading a photo you confirm that:

  • The photo is of you (or a person for whom you have authority to upload, e.g. your child)
  • You have the right to use the photo
  • The photo does not infringe any third-party copyright
  • You are not attempting to create a fraudulent identity document

We reserve the right to refuse processing of any photo that appears to be for fraudulent purposes.

6. Compliance — our responsibility and limits

We run automated compliance checks against the published requirements for each country. Our checks cover the technical and visual criteria we can assess programmatically (face detection, head size, background, expression, eyes, glasses, sharpness, lighting).

We do not guarantee acceptance by government authorities, as final decisions are made by HMPO, the US State Department, or equivalent bodies. However, if your photo is rejected, our guarantee in clause 4 applies.

HMPO note: We do not alter facial features, skin tone, or expressions. We only modify the background and crop. This complies with HMPO's prohibition on digital manipulation.

7. Downloads and expiry

After payment, your photo is available to download immediately. A download link is also sent to your email address. Download links expire after 24 hours, after which your photo is permanently deleted from our servers.

We recommend downloading and saving your photo immediately after purchase.

8. Intellectual property

You retain ownership of your uploaded photo. We do not claim any rights over it. By uploading you grant us a limited licence to process the photo for the purpose of providing the service.

All other content on this website (design, text, software, brand assets) is owned by Supertensor Limited and may not be copied or reproduced without permission.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Smart Passport Photo is not liable for:

  • Delays or costs arising from government rejection of your photo
  • Loss of the downloaded photo after the 24-hour link expiry
  • Any indirect, consequential, or special damages

Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid for your order.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
